What is Aqueous Coating?

Aqueous coating is a clear, water-based, fast drying, protective layer which acts like a shield to seal the ink on your printed piece. It is usually applied, in-line, during the printing process.

It is environmentally friendly because it's water-based and does not cause emissions. It improves the durability of your piece by making it harder for cracks to appear on the spines of a fold. It makes printed pieces more resilient to scuffs, fingerprints, smudges, and other surface blimishes.

In addition to it's protective properties, aqueous coating is a great choice to enhance the overall look of your piece because it provides a glossier finish and slows the yellowing process in comparison to other types of coating, like over-print or spot varnishes.

At, any of the products which offer or include aqueous coating options are for standard gloss only. If you are looking for other types of finishes, we do provide satin, dull(matte), and soft touch for custom pieces. Nothing is outside the realm of possibility...if you can think it, we can print it!
